Photobook Workshop - March 25-26th, 2023

$250.00

Limited to 10 places, this two-day weekend workshop covers a range of topics about publishing a photobook, the process and the industry.

A broad course overview is:

Day 1 - 25th of March

a) Why make a book at all?
b) What does the process of publishing a book look like?
c) What do I need to know to get started?
d) How can I get started with editing and sequence?
e) How can I get started with design? Should I?

Day 2 - 26th of March

a) Dummy making: what and why
b) Should I self-publish or try and get a publisher?
c) What are the costs of publishing? How does the money work?
d) How do I go from working on something to actually having it made?
e) Photobook: then what?

The aim of the workshop is to equip participants with applicable and actionable knowledge about HOW to make a book. Rather than a review of your work, we’ll instead focus much more on what publishing involves and how it can work for you.

You don’t need to have a big project ready to go, you don’t need to know how InDesign works, you don’t even need to know the difference between section sewn, exposed spine or perfect binding. You just need to be interested in publishing and want to learn.

This is a workshop, not a lecture. There’ll be hands-on sections, discussions, question time and absolutely no bs.

The workshop is taught by Matt Dunne. Matt is a photographer, writer and artist who has self-published three books, had a monograph published by an international publisher and owns a publishing company. He has written extensively about photobooks and is a professional educator.

There is a strict no dickhead policy.
